Mile-High Social Media Applications

Jeff Baker wrote a recent post, “Autopilot for Marketing," while flying from Indianapolis to Phoenix. He wrote it in the air, and I find myself doing the same thing right now. The wonders of social media applications.

We live in such an all-access society. It doesn’t matter that I have no access to the internet (although some airlines will soon offer wireless!) or my Blackberry (gasp!) and am forced to maintain the same uncomfortable upright position for three hours. As long as I have my laptop, I can let my creative juices flow. In a moment of honesty, I will admit that I wouldn’t be writing a post right now if my only tools were a pen and paper. When I’m back online in a few hours, I can submit this post for review and it’ll soon be live on the Aprimo blog.

Automation in general is everywhere. We use automation to schedule bill payments online. Many use it in email marketing. You don’t honestly think that seconds before you received that e-newsletter from [fill in the blank company], someone in their office clicked a big, red button labeled “send,” do you? We use automation for workflow and project management. Even your favorite pizza joint automates pick-up and delivery orders online. I think the biggest benefit of this is pre-paying with a credit card. I never have cash when the pizza guy knocks, but I can fill in my tip on the receipt and… voila.

As I fly toward San Diego for the DMA09, I must be somewhere over Arizona. When I’m back on the ground and this post goes live, I’d love to hear from you. What automated process in your personal life can't you live without? Is it your washing machine (wash, rinse, spin)? Is it online bill payment?

What about in your work? What process has your team automated that gives you daily benefits? What processes do you wish you could automate? Could Aprimo provide relief?

Teamwork

There was an article in the paper recently about two very awesome basketball players, Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas.  Both now play for the Indiana Fever.  The article pointed out that even though Tamika Catchings was a superstar in her own right on the Fever team, she truly welcomed Katie Douglas, also a superstar, to the Indiana Fever.  As I read further, it was clear these two women have a deep respect for one another and their abilities on the court.  The article mentioned that together they helped the Fever clinch the Number 1 seed in the WNBA's Eastern Conference playoffs and that they played so well they were both candidates to be the league's Most Valuable Player.  This could have gone the other way so easily, but our starring ladies are showing the world what it is to be a really, really, really good teammate!

Working at Aprimo, I am constantly reminded that it takes teamwork to get the job done!  We are a team internally; we work as a team with our prospects, our customers, as well as our partners.

If you need a great team to help you with your marketing automation or social media applications needs, let us know.  Align yourself with a winner!  We would love to assist!

Healthy Marketing

One of my family members had surgery this week and has come through it beautifully.  She had a wonderful team of medical experts to make this happen.

It made me think about the surgery we often need in our business processes.  I hear this in speaking with prospects looking for marketing information technologies and social media applications.  They need to eliminate the old and find something that works for them making their marketing efforts healthy and productive.

One lady recently told me they have a complex system of marketing management processes but it doesn't give them the productivity they desperately need.  Their current process mires them down, resulting in consumption of time and money.  She was excited to know we have marketing software, both on-demand & Marketing SaaS (Software as a Service) that can streamline all of her marketing needs. Now, the hardest decision she has to make is determining which solution best suits her needs!

So, think of Aprimo as your marketing medical team.  If your marketing efforts are ailing, I would love to speak with you.  We would love to make them healthy.

I can't do a Yoda impression....but I'm learning!

As mentioned in an earlier post - I am a "newbie" to marketing for technology and my learning curve has been steep on several levels. Let's just cover the first three letters of the alphabet!

A. The cobbler's kids DO have shoes - in marketing at Aprimo, we absolutely use the marketing operations software that we sell, so there's that to learn.

B. My charge is media relations and social media and although I rely heavily on social media in my personal life, I have been skiing uphill when it comes to learning about everything social media optimization can do for business - luckily - we have shoes for that here, too with our newest product, Aprimo Marketing Studio.

C. I would be remiss if I didn't mention forging relationships with the colleagues who instead of having pictures of their kids and families in their cubes, have pictures of princess Lea (is that her name? the one with the two sticky buns on her head??) and who can do a better Yoda impression than Yoda himself. Yeahhh....there's that.

I could dwell on C for awhile here...but we'll save that for a later post, so let's cover B.

My title is Media Relations. Mind you, I have not technically worked in Media Relations hands-on in over 5 years and in that time...how to send a release, the timing of them, the web wire services that now exist, far exceed what I was doing "back then." But what really amazes me is the science behind social media and word or should I say...world of mouth marketing. The true chemistry of the formulas built behind social media applications is amazing for garnering marketing results.

Much of this I have learned while playing around with our new  Aprimo Marketing Studio product. I have read a lot of articles and speculation around whether or not social media is a fad. Check out this video....and cast your vote - I will be keeping tally..here to stay? or trend for the day??
